Chopin Festival in Duszniki Zdrój 4.-9.2017

Frederic Chopin monument in Wroclaw

The first Chopin festival in Duszniki Zdrój, small SPA city on the mountains close to Wroclaw, was organised unbelievably enough, already 1946, just after the end of the WWII. Even more, because before the war the area belonged to Germany

I n Duszniki Zdrój Frédéric Chopin cured himself with healthy waters in the local sanatorium with his mother and sister. During the stay he was giving charity concerts.

Certainly this was the reason to organise the festival in the concert park of the Duszniki Zdój. In the beginning there was in the park a concert mussel (?), later small concert manorhouse was built, but mussel still is used. There is a screen where the concert is shown and Polish Radio's concert forecast can be listened in the park as well as sitting in the nice terraces

The atmosphere in the concerts is very cosy and applauses have been inviting the pianists back on the scene even eight times. I have the same feeling as in Kuhmo Chamber Concert festival.

The best of the best pianists are invited to the festival and it seems for them it is a honor to participate. In the mornings you can listen the master courses and in the afternoon and in the evening there are two concerts altogether.

This year the festival lasts 4.8.-13.8. and our trip includes first five days with inauguration concert and in the end the Nocturne -concert late evening.

During day time there is possibility to visit the beautiful and surprising Błędne Skały labyrints, Errant Rocks, and one day excursion to Wroclaw also is in the program. Wrocław was the European Capital of Culture for 2016 and for good reasons. It is a city of many cultures, it has belonged to many neighbours of Poland until 1945. The Old Town, Aula of the University, Ostrów Tumski, the oldest part of Wroclaw with its Cathedral and the Racławice Panorama, a monumental (15 × 114 meter) cycloramic painting depicting the Battle of Racławice, during the Kościuszko Uprising 1794 are really worth of seeing. I would compare Wroclaw with Cracow' beauty.

Welcome to Chopin Festival!
